Victorian Disc Golf Open Results and Report

Play has now concluded in the inaugural Victorian Disc Golf Open. Sunday’s play saw players tackling the very technical Drysdale Reserve Course. There was considerable movement in the top of the field with many players carding excellent rounds on the difficult course.

In the final round both Drew Muller and Luke Williams made a run at Andrew Dowdy who entered the round with a commanding 10 stroke lead. While Luke shot a 53 (course record) and Drew shot a 54 it just wasn’t enough to catch Andrew who gave up several strokes allowing them to come within 3 strokes but no farther.

Chunzi Xu took out the Womens division, improving on her morning round by 7 strokes. Players gave some extremely positive feedback on the Drysdale course, particularly the newly added Hole 12. Thanks to all who made the effort to come and play in this event and to those out there watching things unfold. We will have a full report, pictures and other information posted during the course of the week. For now, here are the final scores:

The first ever Night Owl Cup has just been completed with Drew Muller taking out the Cup in a 3-way tie breaker with Jarrath Sweetten and Andrew Dowdy. Here are the scores for the Night Owl:

Everyone had a great time at this very social event. Lots of friendly heckling on the tees as well as some great shots. Several people actually shot better rounds in the Night Owl that they did playing the same 9 holes (admittedly without the OB at night) during the day.

Big day, still at the course and just time to post scores. Island Green hole gave many players trouble but Greg Bowers managed the only Birdie and the CTP. Andrew Dowdy currently has the lead by a solid 5 strokes. Current scores after 27 holes are:

Almost there. Preparations are all but complete with course designs finalised, maps and players packs done and a car load of prizes and discs on their way down to Geelong. One of the feature events at the 2008 Victorian Open will be the “Night Owl Cup”.

For those unfamiliar with the sport, basically it’s night time Disc Golf with light-up frisbees and illuminated target baskets. Open to anyone wishing to enter OR for those wanting to try disc golf for the first time, this promises to be a visually exciting and memorable event.
